Alvarion Ltd. (NASDAQ:ALVR) announced the development of a mobile WiMAX solution based on the 802.16e standard with the first demonstration system expected within a year. The target launch in 2006 is intended to coincide with the availability of WiMAX-enabled devices such as laptops and PDAs that utilize chips currently under development.
一年以内のデモということは、製品リリースは一年少しあと、つまり 2006 年となる。2006 年というのは Intel が WiMAX が普及している年だと想定している時期である。

By 2006, the technology will be integrated into mobile computers to support roaming between WiMAX service areas.
というわけで、上記の Alvarion のニュースには Intel もコメントしている。
"We are delighted to see Alvarion moving aggressively to realize the full potential of WiMAX technology," said Sean Maloney, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Intel Communications Group. "Thanks to the efforts of the global WiMAX community, this standard for both fixed and mobile high-speed broadband connectivity continues to gain momentum."
ちなみに、Intel と Alvarion は共同でアルゼンチン国内での WiMAX ネットワークを構築している。

Redline が 802.16-2004 準拠の製品を発表
以下のニュースによると、WCA シンポジウムで 802.16-2004 準拠の製品を発表。

On display will be Redline's universal platform, the AN-100U, a fully compliant IEEE 802.16-2004 platform. The AN-100U, which functions as a base station and subscriber station, advances Redline's readiness for WiMAX(TM) interoperability testing and commercial viability.
AN-100U というのが 802.16-2004 準拠の製品。この製品と既存製品との関係は次の通り。
"From our earliest days of product development, Redline has been committed to delivering solutions that support the standardization needs of the industry," said Keith Doucet, VP of Marketing and Product Management. "We led the market with our introduction of an 802.16a compliant product, the AN-100, which today is being used worldwide by Tier 1 operators primarily for backhauling wireless access networks. The AN-100 has demonstrated the viability of the standards based technology for backhaul applications, while the AN-100U will serve the access market, representing Redline's foyer into the residential space".
既存製品である AN-100 (802.16a 製品) は中継網で使われるのに対し、AN-100U はアクセス網を対象としている。
