まずは flickr とは？

Flickr is the best way to store, sort, search and share your photos online. There is a huge mass of photos in the world, and Flickr provides a way to organize yours, and for you and your friends and family to tell your stories about them.

オンライン写真管理サービスと言えばいいか。ただ、単純に管理機能があるだけではなくて、blog との連携や SNS っぽく他のメンバーとのコミュニティが提供されていたりとオンラインサービス機能の充実度が高いのと、操作系インターフェイスが優れているのが特徴かと。

まず、アカウントの種類には無料と有料の２種類がある。違いは次の通り。

ついで、写真をアップロードする方法は Windows, Mac それぞれに Uploader が提供されていたり、iPhoto plugin が提供されていたり、Windows XP エクスプローラからアップロードできたり (WebDAV の機能を使ってる？) するほかに、当然ですがメール添付でアップロードすることが可能。

メールでアップロードする場合、"subject" が写真タイトル、メール本文が description である。

アップロードした写真にはいくつかの属性をつけることが出来る。その一つが tag と呼ばれるもので、キーワードの様なものである。例えば、"food" tag がついた僕の写真は次の通り。

この tag は flickr 全体でも共通なので、他のメンバーが同じ tag をつけていれば、まとめてブラウズすることも出来る。以下は "food" tag をつけた写真群。

で、アップロードした写真を外部のブログで利用することが出来る。 対応したブログは次の通り。

……はてなはないんだよね。はてなが ATOMAPI でいいのでサポートしてくれると、いろいろと使い勝手が良くなるのだが……

SNS っぽい機能としては、"Contact" という概念がある。マイミクシイとか友達（GREE）の様なもの。SNS との違いは Contact が必須ではない点。

Why do I need contacts?

Well, you don't *need* contacts, but they are nice to have! When you upload a photo, you can choose to share it with a set of people you know.

private に設定した写真を共有してみるためには Contact に含まれている必要がある（Contact のなかに Friend や Family というレベルがあり、それぞれのレベルに対しての写真の公開／非公開の設定が可能)

あと、Chat とか Group とかいう機能がある様子。よくわからんので説明だけ貼っておく。

How do I find people to talk to?

When you're first starting out, it might seem a little empty. The more contacts you have -- people and groups -- the more action you'll find. You can browse through public groups on the website, or hang out in the group channels without having to join. You can also search for people either by email address, real name, screen name, or particular categories: interests, books & authors, movies, stars & directors, or music and artists.

So, the more information you provide in your profile, the more likely it is that people will hook up with you if they have something in common with you!

In FlickrLive, you'll see a panel on the right of the screen with tabs labelled 'Your groups' and 'Active groups'. You can see where people are chatting and open up any of the group chat channels which are available there. You can also browse available groups from there.
