130km/h での Wi-Fi ローミング
WiFi Net News、MuniWireless で知ったのだが RoamAD という米国企業が 130km/h での Wi-Fi ローミング実験に成功したようである。

MuniNetworks のエントリによると、実験が行われたのは米国アリゾナ州 Rio Rico 〜 Green Valley 間の I-19 で、Department of Homeland Security の助成金を基に、Arizona Telecommunications and Information Council がコーディネートした様子。実際に実装したのは 米国 Wi-VOD 社 である。Wi-VOD の web サイトによると、会社概要は次の通り。
Service Provider providing Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) access through a wide-range of strategic universal wireless Internet "hot-spots" supporting highly affordable voice and data offerings.
また、同エントリによると Wi-VOD が使用した Wi-Fi 機器はニュージーランド RoamAD 社のもの。RoamAD の会社概要は次の通り。
RoamAD supplies low cost network infrastructure for metro Wi-Fi networks and campus hotzones. RoamAD networks can range in size from 0.25 square kilometres (e.g. college campus) to potentially hundreds of square kilometres (e.g. entire city).
The key benefit of the RoamAD solution is the ability to deploy a cocoon of indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi coverage in difficult and varying multi-storey metropolitan environments.

このニュースで気になることは２つある。一つ目は、VoIP 端末の対応策について。無線 LAN の高速ローミングは、インフラ側（アクセスポイント側）での対応は必須だが、端末側でのローミング対策も必要になるような気がするのだが、そこをどうクリアしたのだろうか？
もう一つは、MuniWireless でも指摘しているけれど、実験とはいえ 130km/h はスピード違反でしょ？アメリカって、どんだけ田舎に行っても、65 mph (104km/h) が上限なんじゃないの？
